Two University undergraduates have received U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarships and will be heading overseas this summer to take part in language and cultural immersion programs.
Quinn Hartleroad of Wood County is one of seven West Virginia University students who have been awarded the Boren Scholarship. Hartleroad, a senior international studies major, is a former Critical Language Scholarship recipient.

The University of Kentucky Office of Nationally Competitive Awards has announced four UK students have been awarded Critical Language Scholarships to study Chinese, Japanese and Swahili abroad.
Awarded from the department's Critical Languages Scholarship program, the competitive study abroad award will place Josephine Chaet, of Chicago (Portage Park/Irving Park); Maria Folvarska, of Itasca, Illinois; and Amreen Matharu, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, in a fully funded eight-week language program that includes cultural enrichment experiences.
An eight-week intensive Chinese language course for participants in the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Languages Scholarship Program kicked off June 23 at National Cheng Kung University in southern Taiwan’s Tainan City.
