Three UAB students win Critical Language Scholarships

Lillian Chien, a 2018 UAB graduate who earned bachelor's degrees in neuroscience and international studies, Ayla McCay, a sophomore majoring in international studies, and Kaitlin McLeod, a junior neuroscience major, have been selected for the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship program.

For the love of language

Houston junior Melissa Torres never thought that her studies at Lamar would take her to India. It will now, because with the assistance of Lamar Study Abroad she has been awarded a Critical Language Scholarship through the U.S. state department, one of the most prestigious language programs in the nation.

Speaking Up

Emily Key will study Mandarin this summer with the Critical Language Scholarship Program. Joining Key as MU recipients of a CLS is Clare Roth, a journalism and international studies dual major from New Haven, Missouri, and Victor Topouria, a journalism major with an emphasis in international strategic communication from Columbia, Missouri.
