Finalists for the CLS Program represent over 230 institutions of higher education across the United States, including community colleges, four year institutions, private and public institutions, minority-serving institutions, historically black colleges and universities and military academies. We are proud of the diverse range of American students who are selected to participate on the CLS Program each summer, which contributes to the programs broad impact in American communities.
The CLS Program is part of a U.S. government effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages. CLS scholars gain critical language and cultural skills that enable them to contribute to U.S. economic competitiveness and national security. CLS is a program of the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It is supported in its implementation by American Councils for International Education.
