Program Overview

The CLS Program’s virtual programming in 2021 comprises approximately 20 hours of language activities per week, including:

  • 10 hours of face-to-face (synchronous) small group class
  • 10-15 hours of synchronous and asynchronous activities:
    • Individual feedback sessions with instructors
    • Asynchronous instruction, such as reviewing video recordings
    • Cultural activities
    • Individual and group homework assignments
    • Directed independent study
    • Regular meetings with a language partner for conversation practice

The Azerbaijani program has been hosted by the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) since 2010. AUL is the premier pedagogical university in Azerbaijan, and prepares its students for continued study at the graduate level and professional teaching careers. The university has three campuses, eight schools of study, and more than 5,000 undergraduate students, as well as over 300 graduate students. AUL is also home to the U.S. Embassy’s American Center, which is an Internet center and library that offers access to reference tools and research services.
