The application for the 2018 Summer Critical Language Scholarship Program is now closed. We want to thanks all of the university campus representatives and CLS Program alumni who recruited for the CLS Program in 2017, to everyone who advised students through the application process and especially to all of the applicants who submitted applications for the 2018 program and who continue to pursue their interest in learning critical languages and building mutual understanding between the United States and people of other countries!
This year we received over 5500 applications from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Applicants represented over 790 public and private colleges and universities, 161 minority serving institutions, and 98 community colleges; one out of four applicants identified as first generation college students and 44% identified as students of color.
We are currently reviewing all submitted applications and will inform semi-finalists of their status in late January. Until then, we hope that everyone stays engaged in language learning stays warm this winter season!
