Dear CLS Applicants:
We have been working non-stop with our development team to work on a fix to the issues that brought the application down yesterday. At this point, we believe that we have identified the issue, and have a developed a fix.
In order to confirm the reliability of this fix, we need to test the performance of the system under normal usage conditions. For that reason, we will be reopening the application tonight for access by applicants and recommenders, and closely monitoring its status. We would like to invite you to continue to work on your applications, as well as submit them, at this time at http://www.clscholarship.org/apply. We encourage everyone to submit their applications as soon as possible.
There is a possibility that the fix will not solve the issues, in which case we will take the application down once again.
We will not implement a deadline until we have been able to confirm the application's stability following the fix. More information will be made available regarding a deadline tomorrow at noon on our website, as well as by Facebook and Twitter.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and we appreciate your continued patience and understanding throughout this process.

The CLS application deadline is on hold and will be extended. We will establish a new deadline pending further information on our website repairs.
All applicants with an open application will be emailed with the new deadline as soon as that information is available. Again, we will ensure students have a fair notice and reasonable amount of time to submit their in-progress applications.
We will continue to update our website, Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/CLScholarship] and Twitter [https://twitter.com/clsscholarship] with additional information.
We apologize for the uncertainty and any anxiety this may have produced, and we appreciate your continued patience and understanding throughout this process.

We’re getting a lot of emails and phone calls from
applicants. Here’s what we’re telling them: we are keenly aware that many
students have work or study commitments, or travel plans this week and holiday
weekend, and that applicants have not had the time they had counted on, and
planned for, to finalize and submit their applications. Given this context, we
are working with the Department of State to make sure that everyone with an
open application has
a fair notice of a deadline extension and the
opportunity to submit their applications
. As long as the website doesn’t
have functionality, no one can log on, and while students are not able to work
on and submit their applications, it’s a safe bet to assume that we will see a
deadline extension of some sort. We’d like to ask you to be patient, not
stress, and check back on the CLS website every few hours, or as you can, as we
work to restore functionality to the CLS application website.

Our application server is still experiencing issues that have forced us to take down the application temporarily. Our developers are working to resolve these issues today. We will continue to update our facebook group [ www.fb.com/clscholarship] and twitter account [www.twitter.com/clsscholarship] as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience as we work on restoring functionality to the CLS application website. We are aware that many of you have travel, work or study commitments. We are working hard to make sure that everyone with an open application has a fair opportunity to submit.
In this context, we are evaluating a further extension closely. Updates to the deadline will be announced here as well as on social media.
Recommendation letters are also currently affected by this outage.

Original Post: Last night, we rebooted our application server in an attempt to solve the connectivity issues that many were experiencing ahead of the 2016 application deadline. Unfortunately, it appears that issues returned shortly thereafter. Our developers have been working to resolve issues with the server, but have been unable to reach a solution.
We are continuing to work on resolving these issues today. We will continue to update our facebook group and twitter account as more information becomes available.
The application deadline has been extended until this evening, November 24, at 5:00pm Eastern Time. Given the ongoing issues we will be considering alternatives closely. Any further decisions or updates to the deadline will be announced here as well as on social media.

Recommendation letters are
still due November 30 at 5pm Eastern Time and are unaffected by the current outage.
