Are you interested in sharing your experience while supporting and promoting the CLS Program? The application to become a 2025 CLS Alumni Ambassador is now open! Apply here by 11:59 pm EST on Monday, January 6.
Who are CLS Alumni Ambassadors?
Alumni Ambassadors are select alumni from the 2024 CLS Program and CLS Spark virtual initiative who serve as representatives, recruiters, and spokespersons by sharing their experiences with various audiences, including applicants, program finalists, university staff, alumni and the general public. CLS Alumni Ambassadors come from an array of backgrounds, disciplines and institutions and have participated in the 2024 CLS Program and CLS Spark virtual initiative.
What do Alumni Ambassadors do?
Alumni Ambassadors may participate in the following activities:
- Promote the CLS Program and language study in their community, conducting at least one recruitment activity
- Plan and host events for CLS Program alumni
- Respond to questions from future and current CLS participants
- Write about their experiences on the program to be featured on the CLS website
- Mentor participants through the CLS Alumni Support Network
- Work with CLS Program staff on various projects
- Monitor online forums (such as Facebook, Instagram, X and/or LinkedIn) and share their stories with prospective CLS scholars
Who is eligible?
Anyone who successfully completed the 2024 CLS Program or CLS Spark virtual initiative is eligible to apply to become a 2025 Alumni Ambassador. Alumni of the 2024 program who applied for the 2025 CLS Program are still eligible to apply. We encourage CLS alumni from all fields of study, degree levels, and institution types to apply.
Is training provided?
Yes! CLS Alumni Ambassadors are expected to attend the 2025 Alumni Ambassador Forum, tentatively scheduled for March 23 – 26, 2025. Hosted by the CLS Program in Washington, D.C., the Forum is an annual event that provides ambassadors with robust training, professional development sessions, and the exciting opportunity to connect with CLS staff, U.S. Department of State representatives, and other passionate alumni leaders. Transportation, lodging, and food costs related to the Alumni Ambassador Forum will be covered by the CLS Program.
Why should I apply?
Serving as a CLS Alumni Ambassador provides an opportunity to share your experiences from the CLS Program; broaden your professional and personal network through connections with CLS alumni from previous years; and shape the experience of future CLS participants by providing suggestions and feedback to CLS Program staff. Ambassadors help others apply for the CLS Program, support CLS scholars to prepare for the program, and spearhead new initiatives in alumni programming.
How do I apply?
Approximately 20-25 alumni from the 2024 program will be selected. We look for alumni who have reflected on the successes and challenges of their experiences and want to share their excitement for language study and the CLS Program with others. Alumni Ambassadors will be notified about their selection in late January.
To apply, please complete the online application available here.
Applications are due by 11:59 pm EST on Monday, January 6.
