Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The University of Texas at Austin
Austin, TX
September 26-27, 2019

These two-day topical seminars will bring together approximately 50 Gilman alumni and 25 CLS alumni (per location) to advance their leadership skills and position them for careers in entrepreneurship and innovation or energy and natural resources. Seminar attendees will engage with industry leaders from government, academia, and business during seminar sessions, networking receptions, and visits to companies or institutions in the area.

Gilman and CLS alumni should indicate preference for the topic(s) most related to their interests and experience. A limited number of modest travel stipends will be available to those alumni attending from outside the host cities. Alumni who are local to a seminar city are also eligible to apply for a small stipend to cover local travel to the seminar location if needed. Meals, ground transportation, and hotel costs will be fully covered for all seminar participants.

Gilman and CLS alumni will be able to indicate in the application if they would like to be considered for a travel stipend. Please note that alumni selected for the seminar will be expected to arrive Wednesday night and depart Saturday morning.

Dual-occupancy hotel rooms will be provided Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night for all seminar attendees. Applicants requesting a travel stipend must provide a budget estimating their travel costs to and from the seminar in the application. Selected alumni will then receive a travel grant based on this budget at least 4 weeks in advance of the seminar date.

To apply, please complete the registration application form by 11:59pm Central Time on June 18, 2019. By submitting the registration form, you are confirming your availability and intention to attend the seminar if you are accepted.

We are anticipating a high level of interest in these opportunities and your confirmation for this event means another alum will not be able to participate in this opportunity.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Applicant’s interest and/or experience in the topic
  • Impact of the seminar on the applicant's professional goals
  • Impact of applicant's presence at seminar on other attendees
  • Applicant's plans to use knowledge and skills gained from seminar

Eligibility

CLS alumni who have successfully completed all requirements of the CLS Program are eligible to attend. This includes 2019 participants of the program, provided they will have completed all requirements of the CLS Program prior to the Topical Seminar.
