Gwangju, South Korea
Program Dates:
June 14 - August 14, 2026
Hosting Institution:
Chonnam National University
The CLS Korean program in Gwangju, South Korea is hosted by Chonnam National University (CNU). The academic program pushes students to expand their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Classes build on one another through structured lessons that help students move from recognizing vocabulary and grammar to speaking confidently on a wide range of personal and professional topics.
Excursions and activities introduce students to various aspects of Korean culture and society outside of the formal classroom environment. Past activities and excursions have allowed students to explore traditional music and martial arts, learn about science and technology in South Korea, and explore the everyday lives of Korean people across a variety of ages, professions, and life experiences.
Participants live in on-campus apartments with a CLS peer and a CNU student. CLS students can walk to their classes, the campus cafeteria, and a range of restaurants in the neighborhood. In past years, CLS students and their roommates and other Korean peers have enjoyed visiting temples, talking about cultural similarities and differences, and watching sports together.
