Critical Language Scholarship Program | Jaipur, India

Jaipur, India

Program Dates:

June 09 - August 09, 2026

Hosting Institution:

American Institute of Indian Studies

The CLS Hindi Program is hosted by the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS). AIIS has instructed American university students and scholars in Indic languages for over 60 years. The academic program allows students to expand their command of Hindi through a range of courses focused on specific aspects of language acquisition such as grammar, conversation, pronunciation, journal writing, and dictation.

Co-curricular activities are designed to complement formal classroom instruction and may include guest lectures from community representatives such as shopkeepers and tradespeople, as well as interactive music and dance sessions. Local excursions give students in-depth knowledge of the history and culture of Rajasthan and provide opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds. In the past, such cultural excursions have included trips to the local market, Amer Fort, the Barefoot College, and Sanganer.

To deepen their understanding of daily life in contemporary Jaipur, students live with host families. Students often spend time discussing local and global events with their host families, learning how to make traditional Rajasthani foods, joking around in Hindi with host siblings, and listening to host grandparents share family stories.
