Program Overview

The CLS Program's Virtual Institute for Hindi includes approximately 20 hours of language activities per week:

  • Face-to-face small group class time
  • Individual feedback sessions with instructors
  • Homework assignments that reinforce course materials and concepts
  • Directed independent study
  • Meetings with a language partner for conversation practice
  • Structured cultural activities designed to provide insight into historical and contemporary life in India

Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan, and was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II. Jaipur is famous for its many historical sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Amer Fort. Jaipur is 250 kilometers southwest of New Delhi, and is part of the Golden Triangle tourist circuit. The hosting organization in Jaipur is the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS). AIIS is a consortium of 71 American universities with South Asia Studies Centers and is recognized by the Government of India as an institution of higher learning and research. AIIS has been instructing American university students and scholars in Indic languages for over 50 years.
