The CLS Chinese Program in New Taipei is hosted by Tamkang University (TKU) at the Tamsui, New Taipei campus. TKU was founded in 1950 as Tamkang Junior College of English. It became Tamkang College of Arts and Sciences in 1958 and was officially renamed Tamkang University in 1980. The academic program focuses on increasing all language skills and covers a wide range of topics including business and innovation, professional culture, society, and science.

Cultural excursions and activities supplement the academic program, highlighting the region’s cultural heritage and modern high-tech economy. Previous activities have included excursions offering firsthand insight into Taiwan’s cutting edge semiconductor manufacturing industry, and a visit to a noodle factory, showcasing Taiwan’s vibrant food culture. All activities reinforce language learning through real-world engagement.

Students live with Taiwanese families and roommates, allowing participants to practice their growing Chinese language skills while developing meaningful relationships and insight into Taiwan and its culture. In their free time, past participants have explored New Taipei’s blend of urban areas and natural landscapes, sampled its fresh seafood, and enjoyed the stunning sunsets.
