2026
Sarah Shewaye participated in the 2025 CLS Russian Program hosted by Learn Russian in the European Union in Daugavpils, Latvia. Sarah graduated from the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon with a B.A. in Political Science. She is currently taking a gap year while preparing for law school. Her background has shaped her interest in international law, particularly in areas related to migration, human rights, and public policy.
"Participating in the Critical Language Scholarship program had a significant impact on my language-learning journey by allowing me to apply my newly acquired Russian skills in everyday life. Even though Russian had always been part of my daily life growing up, before CLS, I often relied on English when conversations became difficult. Living in a fully immersive environment made my goals feel much more purposeful and tangible. One of the most rewarding parts was seeing the conversations we practiced in class come to life in real situations."
