Lydia King

Lydia King participated in the 2025 CLS Swahili Program hosted by the MS-Training Centre for Development Cooperation in Arusha, Tanzania. Lydia graduated from Emory University in 2025 with a B.A. in Anthropology & Human Biology and Linguistics. She is pursuing an M.A. in Social Anthropology at the University of St Andrews, where she studies the role of language translation in public health education. She is currently serving as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Rwanda and hopes to build a career focused on improving health outcomes through language access.

"I truly cannot recommend CLS enough. I came into the program with minimal Swahili knowledge, but have never experienced such fast language growth. The language pledge is such a unique aspect of the program, as well as the cohort structure. My fellow cohort members inspired me to dedicate myself to my language growth, and I still keep in touch with so many of them."
