Anna Walter
Anna Walter participated in the 2024 CLS Arabic Program in Meknes, Morocco. She is currently working as a project engineer for a construction company. Anna's professional goal is to work on international projects within the construction industry.
Why Arabic?
I've always loved studying languages—especially challenging ones! After studying Mandarin and participating in National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), I saw firsthand how language learning broadens your perspective and deepens your understanding of the world. I chose Arabic because I wanted to learn more about the MENA region and connect with others through a widely spoken language in the world.
A Favorite Idiom
My favorite word in Arabic is "Noor" (نور) meaning light.
Career Goals
I graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in civil engineering. I currently work as a project engineer for a construction company, traveling all around the U.S. In the future, I hope to work on international projects and use my language skills to help build infrastructure that makes a positive impact on people’s lives.
CLS’s Impact
CLS taught me how to be adaptable and resilient. Since I move every eight months for work, flexibility has been key to succeeding in each new place. I've always wanted to work abroad someday, and my CLS experience only strengthened that goal.
