Emilie Bowerman participated in the 2025 CLS Arabic Program hosted by the Arab American Language Institute (ALIM) in Meknes, Morocco. Emilie is pursuing a Ph.D. in History at the University of Notre Dame, where she specializes in medieval Iberian and North African history. She earned an A.B. from Dartmouth College in 2023 after designing her own interdisciplinary major in Medieval Studies. In the future, Emilie intends to continue teaching students about the history and culture of the MENA region while pursuing research on the socio-religious formation of the greater Mediterranean world.
"The CLS program allowed me to rapidly improve my Arabic reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills within a short span of time. My CLS summer was the equivalent to a second year of instruction in Modern Standard Arabic. While on program, my ability to converse and express myself in MSA greatly improved."
