AI in Action International Alumni Seminar

The U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program invites alumni to apply for the AI in Action International Alumni Seminar, taking place in Riga, Latvia, from October 17–24, 2026.

This weeklong seminar will convene up to 25 CLS alumni for hands-on sessions with topic experts, site visits, cultural activities, and networking opportunities focused on key U.S. foreign policy goals.

Eligibility

All CLS alumni may apply, regardless of program year, modality, or language studied. Applicants must:

  • Be a CLS alumnus/a in good standing from 2025 or earlier;
  • Be available for the full duration of the seminar dates, including travel dates; and
  • Demonstrate a connection to AI through relevant academic, professional, or community experience.

Note: Applicants with current or recent employment or family ties to the U.S. Department of State or CLS Program implementation may be ineligible.

CLS alumni with AI-related academic, work, and/or community experience will be prioritized.

Program Benefits

Selected participants will receive support for major seminar costs, including travel, housing, seminar activities, international insurance coverage, and a stipend for meals and other program-related expenses. Participants are responsible for passport fees, required immunizations and related health appointments, and any personal travel outside official program activities.
