Elisabeth Starosta participated in the 2025 CLS Chinese Program hosted virtually by Dalian University of Technology in Dalian, China, and the 2024 CLS Spark Chinese virtual initiative hosted by LTL Language School Singapore in Singapore. Elisabeth graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.S. in Chemistry and currently works as a respiratory EMT and a staff member at a domestic violence shelter while applying to medical school. Her career goal is to become a critical care physician, with an interest in clinical research and Doctors Without Borders.
"Before CLS, Mandarin was something I studied alone through apps and scattered resources. It was easy to keep it private that way, and to avoid the hard parts that made me feel embarrassed. CLS did not let me do that. I had to speak out loud, make mistakes in front of other people, ask for help, and keep going even when I knew my sentence was probably wrong."
