Charles "Charlie" Carver participated in the 2025 CLS Japanese Program hosted by Okayama University in Okayama, Japan. Charles graduated from Occidental College with a B.A. in Diplomacy & World Affairs and a minor in Asian Studies. He currently works at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations after interning with the Communications Team at the UK Mission to the United Nations. He hopes to build a long-term career in international affairs focused on Japan, East Asia, and multilateral diplomacy.
"The amount of confidence I gained in just two months was honestly unmatched, and it greatly increased my motivation to continue studying after returning home. I would strongly recommend CLS because there is really no comparable experience for improving both language ability and confidence. Through classes, excursions, language partners, and interactions with roommates and friends, you are constantly learning simply by living your daily life, which makes the experience uniquely immersive and rewarding."
