Information for advisors on checking the status of student applications and requesting materials.

We hope this message finds you well! As a valued CLS advisor, your role in guiding and supporting students interested in critical language learning opportunities is essential to our collective success.

We will cover a number of important topics in today's email. Please read through carefully!

Update to 2025 CLS Spark Essays

CLS Spark's language and level offerings have expanded to include beginner instruction in Japanese and Korean, as well as advanced begninner instruction in Japanese. As a result, we have adjusted the second essay for CLS Spark on access to language learning opportunities.

Applicants will now be asked to address the following points:

  • What opportunities, if any, have you taken advantage of in pursuit of studying your target language? Have you faced any barriers in your attempts to study your target language?
  • How will CLS Spark help you overcome these barriers? How does CLS Spark fit into your plan to develop proficiency in your target language?
  • How do you plan to continue your language learning journey after CLS Spark?
