Sign up as a 2025 CLS Program Evaluator!

Dear CLS Advisor,

Thank you for your ongoing support of the 2025 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. As we continue to encourage students to apply for CLS before the November 19 deadline, we’re also reaching out to invite you to play a crucial role in the selection process by volunteering as an evaluator.

We are eager to expand CLS advisors’ involvement in the selection process. Advisors have shared that this experience not only deepened their understanding of the CLS Program but also equipped them to guide their students more effectively. They learned how the selection criteria and rubric were being applied, while also having a voice in the process to ensure it remains fair and inclusive. Though the evaluator role is a volunteer position, we provide each evaluator and their supervisor with a formal letter of acknowledgment, which can used to support professional or academic advancement.

If you’re interested in becoming an evaluator, please complete our evaluator interest form: https://ais.americancouncils.org/event/clsevaluatorinterest. Please note: this form must be completed in a single session.

We encourage you to share this opportunity with colleagues in international education, fellowships advising, and relevant language and area studies, including graduate students, faculty fellows, and CLS Program at your institution. Having a wide variety of evaluators not only enhances our shared knowledge base but also lightens the workload for all, allowing for a more manageable distribution of applications. Please note: only alumni who completed CLS in or before 2022 are eligible to serve as evaluators for the 2025 cycle. More details are available on our website: https://clscholarship.org/advisors/selection-panels.

Please let me know if you have any questions about evaluating applications or about this survey. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Caitlin Ting
