I hope this message finds you well! I am writing today to invite you to consider serving as an evaluator for the 2022 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program.

Each year, the CLS Program relies on the expertise of advisors, faculty members, and administrators from colleges, universities, and educational organizations around the country to help us select a bright and unique group of undergraduate and graduate students to serve as citizen ambassadors as they spend the summer participating in intensive language study abroad.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete the form linked below by November 1, 2021. More information about the reading process and our timeline is provided in this form. Please click through to read more, and then be in touch if you have further questions.

In the past, we have been very fortunate to be able to provide a modest honorarium for this valued work. However, as the costs of administering the CLS Program have gone up over the years, the level of funding for the program has not. As such, I regret to share that we will no longer be able to offer an honorarium for the evaluation of CLS applications. We are beyond grateful for our community of dedicated readers and could not facilitate this program without that community. We hope that many of you will still find value in participating in the process both personally and professionally, and that the opportunity to engage with our application and selection process will benefit your work with students.

We understand that these changes may mean that some of our valued readers may not be able to commit to evaluating applications for us this year, and that those who are able to participate may choose to evaluate fewer applications than they have in the past. For this reason, we are looking to increase the number of individuals in our network of readers. If you have colleagues in your office or on your campus who might be interested in volunteering to evaluate applications, please share this message with them!

The application for our 2022 Program is open through November 16, 2021 at 8pm Eastern time. Please share this opportunity with your students! More information is available on our web site: https://clscholarship.org/apply

Please let me know if you have any questions about evaluating applications or about this survey. I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes,

Natalie Spencer
