We are now seeking evaluators for the CLS Program and CLS Spark.

Dear CLS Advisors,

Thank you for your support of the 2023 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program and CLS Spark! We are thrilled to offer both initiatives this coming summer.

The application for the CLS Program and CLS Spark remains open through Tuesday, November 15 at 8 PM Eastern. Please continue to encourage your students to apply

We are now seeking evaluators for the 2023 program. If you are interested in volunteering to read and evaluate applications, please complete our reader interest form by Sunday, October 30: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RJ8VB5W.

For those who have read for and evaluated CLS in the past, please note that this will be a volunteer activity; evaluators will not receive an honorarium. The CLS Program is grateful for our community of dedicated evaluators. We fully acknowledge that we could not facilitate this program without this community. As a small thanks for your contribution to this process, we will provide a letter outlining the importance of this service. We encourage you to use this letter in a promotion and tenure file, or any portfolio or dossier for professional or academic advancement.

We understand that some of our valued evaluators may not be able to commit to evaluating applications for us this year, and that some of those who are able to participate may choose to evaluate fewer applications than they have in the past. For this reason, we are looking to increase the number of individuals in our network of evaluators. We encourage you to share this opportunity with colleagues in your office (such as graduate students or faculty fellows) or on your campus who you think might be interested! Reading and evaluating applications is an excellent way to become familiar with the selection criteria for this program; evaluators regularly report that participating in the reading process gives them a clearer understanding of the program and its goals.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete the form linked below by October 30, 2022. More information about the process, including the expected time commitment, is included in the interest survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RJ8VB5W.

Please let me know if you have any questions about evaluating applications or about this survey. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Caitlin Ting
